Sideboards

Sometimes it happens that you have some extra space in your room and no idea how to fill it. Decorative pieces are great, however, they are not very functional. Let’s face it, there is never enough storage space in any home, and that’s when sideboards come into play. Because of the vast variety of materials and styles, as well as designs with no doubt everyone will be able to find the perfect one. Whether placed in the living room, hallway or bedroom, they make a practical addition that lets you organize your space and unclutter the room.

What are Sideboards Made of?

Sideboards, just like any other furniture can be made from all kinds of materials. From the classic, natural woods and engineered wood to glass, each offers different visual aesthetics, but that’s only on the surface level. There are also differences in price, features and properties which should not go unnoticed.

Solid wood sideboards

may be pricy due to the high cost of the material. Solid Wood has gained its popularity not only because of its durability and strength but also due to its beautiful finish. Exposed grain and knots look very appealing especially when matched with rustic interiors. The drawback of the material, however, is that it’s rather demanding in terms of maintenance. It also is likely to absorb moisture and expand slightly which can even block drawers when sliding.

Engineered wood sideboards

is, without a doubt, the most common. The material much cheaper than solid wood and less demanding in terms of maintenance as it is produced from wood fibres stressed with the use of temperature and bound with some kind of synthetic material. It also offers many more options in terms of finish, it can be painted or covered with a veneer – wood or synthetic. Thanks to the veneer finish the furniture can take the appearance of any material, wood, stone, concrete, you name it.

Glass sideboards

have become widely popular over the last couple of years. The beautiful mirror finish the material offers is definitely the go-to as far as glamour style is concerned. Thanks to the use of glass, the furniture gains smooth and glossy surface which reflects the light and the room visually enlarging the space. The maintenance is not as complicated as it is tedious and unfortunately requires a lot of patience and consistency.

Sideboards and Their Functionalities

Sideboards are not only aesthetically appealing but also very practical. They offer plenty of storage space thanks to capacious drawers and cabinets. With them, you can easily stash away all kinds of accessories, knick-knacks and other bits and bobs. The top can serve as a display for candles, plants, trays and vases which will bring a homely touch to the room. The shorter sideboards can be also used as TV stands which comes in especially handy in the case of smaller rooms
